It’s November, which means one thing: holidays are right around the corner! Whether Mariah Carey is already blasting in your home or you’re savoring the last few weeks of fall, it’s never too early to start preparing for holiday guests. Here are a few ways you can make your guests feel right at home this holiday season.
Your Kitchen Brings Comfort.
This is a great place to start when considering your guests overall comfort. Prepare for their arrival by stocking up on some of their favorites. Some ideas might include their go-to coffee creamer, a box of hot tea, or their favorite snacks. Better yet, create a “welcome basket” filled with salty snacks, sweet treats, and special touches like gum or protein bars. They will thank you for your thoughtfulness.
Remember to Hydrate.
Many of us forget how important it is to stay hydrated. Your guests have likely traveled, are exhausted, and the last thing they’re thinking about is how many ounces of water they’ve had! Keep some water bottles in the fridge, or even in their rooms, to encourage hydration.
Don’t Forget the Bathroom.
Have you ever forgotten an everyday necessity when traveling? It’s so easy to leave behind your toothbrush or deodorant. Let your guests know you’ve got them covered with some extra toiletries. Plus, you’ll get extra time with them since they won’t have to make a Target run!
Create a Cozy Bedroom.
Sleeping arrangements are a personal thing. Make sure your guests feel welcome and comfortable with a few extra bedroom items: extra pillows, blankets, a small fan, and charging cables are a few things to consider. Most importantly, make sure your windows have enough coverage so they aren’t bothered by sunlight in the morning or dealing with lack of privacy at night.
Another Thing with Window Coverings…
Are your window treatments safe? This means making sure cords are out of the way, especially with small children. 8 inches or less is an ideal length for cords. You and your guests will rest easy knowing everyone is safe.
Give them Some Space.
If you’re hosting guests this holiday season, you’ve likely been preparing for weeks and are over the moon to finally have them in your home. But, everybody needs a break, especially after traveling! Creating a cozy space for them to relax will make their visit even better. Consider setting up a comfy chair, side table, and lamp. They can read, scroll through their phones, or simply sit and unwind.
Prepare for the Kids.
Having activities ready to go for any small guests will make everyone feel more at ease! Before they arrive, you can prepare by putting away any fragile decor. Next, visit your local dollar store to stock up on fun activities. Playdoh, card games, and a note pad and colored pencils are a few cheap and simple activities for children of all ages to enjoy. Who knows, the adults might join in on the fun, too!
