The Details of Custom Drapes

When it comes down to the customizations of window treatments, the finishing details really do set the look apart. Two of the decisions you’ll need to make involve the drapery hardware and the header style, otherwise known as the how the top of your custom curtains are finished.

Drapery Hardware

Bringing together the look of your custom drapes and curtains comes down to the coordinating style of the hardware you select. With decorative rods and detailed finials, choosing the look of your hardware should reflect your home’s style. Your window covering specialist will guide you in these choices, making sure everything goes together. Drapery hardware is available in a number of metals, including gold, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, brushed nickel and natural brass.

The Header Style

The header style–or how the top of the custom curtains is finished–may not have caught your attention prior to narrowing down the looks you love. If you’ve seen something you really like, we’d be happy to look at it, and let you know what we can do to make your vision come to life. For reference, there are a few popular styles that we like to explain so you have an idea of what’s possible.

  • Pinch Pleat Curtains feature fabrics folded (or pinched together) and sewn in multiples for an elegant finish. Pinch pleated drapes attach to the curtain rods with drapery rings and clips.
  • Grommet Curtains have large metal rings, known as grommets, affixed to the top of the draperies. These grommets are open in the middle, and that’s where the curtain rod is inserted, sliding over the rod. A well-known and widely loved header style, these are easy to utilize and can range from formal to casual.
  • Ripple Fold Drapes attach to a specialty track, offering consistent, rounded curves of fabric, all along the top of the draperies. The ease of use and consistency of design make these a favorite, similar to the look of our Hunter Douglas Luminette collection.

Layering Shades and Custom Drapes

A clear statement of design, the layering of draperies with shades, blinds and shutters will create style while also delivering incredible function. Known as the base window covering, the shades, blinds and shutters provide the privacy, light control and energy efficiency you need in your Houston home. The custom drapes can add to the control, but they make a tremendous design statement, framing the window with color, pattern and dimension.
